【摘要】:Rankedsetsamplingiscost-effective,unbiased,morepreciseandmorerepresentativeofthepopulationthansimplerandomsamplingunderavarietyofconditions(1).3Rankedsetsampling(RSS)canbeusedwhen:4.2.1Thepopulationislikelytohavestratificationinconcentrationsofcontaminant.4.2.2Thereisanauxiliaryvariable.4.2.3Theauxiliaryvariablehasstrongcorrelationwiththeprimaryvariable.4.2.4Theauxiliaryvariableiseitherquickorinexpensivetomeasure,relativetotheprimaryvariable.Thisguideprovidesarankedsetsamplingmethodonlyundertheruleofequalallocation.Thisguideisintendedforthosewhomanage,design,andimplementsamplingandanalysisplansformanagementofwastesandcontaminatedmedia.ThisguidecanbeusedinconjunctionwiththeDQOprocess(seePracticeD5792).1.1Thisguidedescribesrankedsetsampling,discussesitsrelativeadvantagesoversimplerandomsampling,andprovidesexamplesofpotentialapplicationsinenvironmentalsampling.1.2Rankedsetsamplingisusefulandcost-effectivewhenthereisanauxiliaryvariable,whichcanbeinexpensivelymeasuredrelativetotheprimaryvariable,andwhentheauxiliaryvariablehascorrelationwiththeprimaryvariable.Theresultantestimationofthemeanconcentrationisunbiased,moreprecisethansimplerandomsampling,andmorerepresentativeofthepopulationunderawidevarietyofconditions.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
